What is the purpose of coaching?
It is to partner up with clients in order to help them deepen their learning and to help keep their actions moving forward so that
they can achieve the results they want in their personal and professional lives. Coaches do this by using questions masterfully,
by drawing on a variety of interactive coaching tools, and by offering relevant skill-building and personally empowering
exercises to their clients. Coaching is intended to inspire clients to identify, acknowledge, and live by their values and guiding
principles. When living a values-based life, clients experience higher levels of energy and self-confidence and an ability to focus
and take action toward their goals. They become more effective in making personal and professional choices and in establishing
and maintaining interpersonal relationships. Coaching supports, empowers, champions, and celebrates the clients.
What does the coaching profession mean to me?
Quite simply, it means an exciting opportunity to work with people who take personal responsibility for their own learning and
actions and who are ready to do things more effectively in life, to live life more fully, and to have fun while learning more skills.
I care deeply about people, and coaching allows me to serve and give back to our communities in ways that are empowering and
enriching for my clients.
What is my approach to coaching?
My approach to coaching is in alignment with what has been described as an inspired, positive learning model. What that means
is that I focus on and draw attention to what people do well. The reason for this approach is that research and my own
personal experiences have shown that people thrive in learning environments which are positive, nurturing, honest,
and encouraging. People feel safer to take risks, to try out new and effective behaviors, and to connect
with others in a heartfelt way when they know that their strengths will be recognized, acknowledged,
and built on. What eventually happens is that behaviors that are less effective eventually either
disappear entirely or are significantly reduced in intensity and frequency. In short, positive
coaching to help people make positive changes works!
